Characteristics

Lightweight, versatile, and dreamily silky.

Heavy plant oils and rich emulsions can leave a greasy or sticky impression on the skin and often take some time to be fully absorbed. High-spreading silicones can significantly improve the skin feel here. They make it easier to spread the formulation, reduce the perceived greasy film, and provide a light, silky finish. However, silicones are generally immiscible or poorly miscible with hydrocarbon-based oils, such as plant oils or most cosmetic oils.

Silsens is a modified silicone characterized by an exceptionally light, dry, and luxurious sensory profile. It spreads effortlessly on skin and hair and gives formulations a smooth and silky skin feel without leaving a heavy or oily film.

Silsens is composed of short-chain caprylic acid (a plant-based fatty acid) and a 3-unit silicon chain. Therefore, Silsens is not actually a classic silicone and thus possesses different properties than classic silicones. One of its most interesting features is its excellent compatibility with organic raw materials. This makes it outstandingly suitable for formulations with a high proportion of plant oils or cosmetic oils such as Hydromollient. It can also be used as a coupling lipid for oils and silicones – this is interesting for hair oils, for example. It can be processed just like other oils!

In skincare products, Silsens ensures improved application behavior and a light, silky finish with minimal greasiness. It is excellently suited for face creams, body lotions, sun protection products, and makeup, as it has no comedogenic potential and does not clog pores. It is therefore also ideal for products for oily or blemish-prone skin. At the same time, it reliably reduces the whitening effect of creams and ensures they literally "sink into" the skin upon application.

In hair care products, too, Silsens impresses with its outstanding sensory properties. While it does not smooth and protect like other long-chain silicones, it provides suppleness without weighing the hair down unnecessarily or making it look greasy. The hair becomes soft, extremely silky, and retains its volume. This makes it particularly suitable for leave-in conditioners, hair oils, and lighter conditioners.

Thanks to its good solubility in numerous cosmetic lipids, as well as its high compatibility with organic ingredients, Silsens can be easily integrated into a wide variety of formulations.
