Characteristics

Maximum skin protection and maximum lightness - pure luxury!

Silicone materials can be considered part of the lipid phase in cosmetic products instead of, or in addition to, oils, butters, or waxes. However, they are not chemically related to oils; instead, they represent a separate phase in the product. They do not dissolve in water, nor do they dissolve in oil. They actually constitute a third phase in the cosmetic product!

Silblend Aqua is a specially processed blend of a silicone elastomer that has been made water-soluble so it can be easily used in water-based formulations. It can be easily incorporated into emulsions and serums. Adding an emulsifier is not strictly necessary as it already contains one (a sugar surfactant), but doing so further improves the product's solubility. For this, we recommend, for example, Glycogreen (e.g., in serums). In emulsions, a main emulsifier is already present, which is generally sufficient to incorporate Silblend Aqua. As a gelling agent, we recommend, for example, Sepinov WEO. It acts as a co-emulsifier and is excellently suited for emulsifying and stabilizing Silblend Aqua.

A base for a light serum:

• 5% Silblend Aqua
• 10% Propanediol Green
• 1% Sepinov WEO
• 0.3% Glycogreen

A base for an oil-free, moisturizing gel cream:

• 10% Silblend Aqua
• 8% Butylene Glycol Green
• 1.5% Sepinov WEO
• 0.5% Glycogreen

Silicone elastomers are high-molecular, cross-linked silicones and are also referred to as silicone rubbers. In themselves, they are elastic solids that must be dissolved in a silicone oil to become soft, paste-like raw materials. Silicone elastomer blends are characterized in cosmetic products primarily by the following special features:

• unmatched, silky skin feel
• creates a light, breathable film
  
• superior skin protection
• reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL)
  
• provides a soft-focus effect (instant refinement of skin texture)

In skincare products, silicone raw materials are generally characterized by good spreadability. Thus, even a small addition of Silblend Aqua can strongly improve the application behavior and skin feel. Furthermore, it eliminates the whitening of emulsions. Rather, it makes creams and lotions feel as if they are melting into or sinking into the skin! In this way, you can easily give skincare products an expensive, luxurious finish.

After application to the skin, the carrier silicone oil evaporates, leaving only a delicate film of the silicone elastomer behind. This does not feel greasy but rather creates a soft, smooth-silky film on the skin. Due to the micro-fine surface structure, light is diffusely reflected, and the skin immediately receives a matte, perfected finish. The complexion appears more radiant, fine lines and pores are concealed, and oily skin does not start to shine as quickly.

Due to its breathable, non-comedogenic profile, Silblend Aqua is also an optimal choice for oily and blemished skin. Furthermore, bacteria cannot metabolize silicones, meaning they cannot multiply as easily on the skin. This makes it even more valuable in products for blemished skin and acne.

In hair care, Silblend Aqua is characterized by its protective and sealing properties. It forms an invisible shield around the hair, protecting the cuticle from friction and thus saving the hair from split ends. At the same time, combability and shine are preserved without weighing the hair down too much. Due to its improved water solubility, Silblend Aqua can be effortlessly washed out of the hair with a shampoo and typically results in no build-up effect. However, we generally recommend not to overdo the use of lipids, silicones, and other adhesive care substances in hair care.

Interesting to know:

The silicone elastomer contained in Silblend Aqua (Polysilicone-11®) represents a special feature within this substance class and is nearly unmatched in its performance. It not only protects the skin but is also used in special active ingredient mixtures as a base for sensitive active ingredients, or as a carrier system for them. Through the fine film of the elastomer on the skin, the active ingredients are slowly released onto the skin.
