Characteristics

Cetearyl alcohol is the most frequently used consistency agent of all. Simple and foolproof!

Cetearyl alcohol is a consistency agent based on coconut and palm oil (RSPO certified) that is used similarly to cetyl alcohol. It also forms liquid-crystalline networks in emulsions, but is somewhat harder and therefore creates a slightly higher consistency as well as more stable emulsions.

Products made with cetearyl alcohol feel slightly richer on the skin than those with cetyl alcohol.

Cetearyl alcohol acts as a co-emulsifier in water-in-oil emulsions and can be combined with all emulsifiers. It can, of course, also be mixed with other consistency agents to achieve unique textures. In combination with Montanov 14 and/or behenyl alcohol, lighter or firmer textures can be created. At too high a concentration, it produces, like all fatty alcohols, a dull, waxy skin feel.

In balms and stick products, it can be used instead of waxes or in combination with them. It is particularly popular in deodorant sticks, as it leaves a drier skin feel than genuine waxes.

Usage concentration and processing

• 1 - 10 % in emulsions

• 5 - 20 % in anhydrous products (sticks and balms)

• Melt in the fat phase at approx. 56 degrees
