Characteristics

T-Saponin is a 100% natural, detergent powder that is "upcycled" as a by-product of the tea plant. It is completely water-soluble, exhibits excellent cleaning power with low foaming capacity, and also possesses active ingredient properties.

Saponins are plant substances with very diverse chemical structures and varying properties. The tea shrub "Camelia Oleifera" is a plant whose oil is very widespread in Asia. After the oil is pressed from the seeds, the pomace remains, which still contains some valuable plant substances - including tea saponins. These are obtained through steam extraction.

Like other surfactants, saponins from tea possess a water-soluble part (from sugar compounds) and a fat-soluble part (from steroids) and are therefore, chemically speaking, glycosides (like sugar surfactants). The saponins of the tea shrub are highly water-soluble, strongly surface-active, mild to the skin, and exhibit a high cleaning effect. At the same time, they foam only very slightly and should therefore be combined with other surfactants if foam is desired. Where foam is not desired, e.g., in facial toners and micellar waters, it can also be used alone - as a mild cleansing substance or to bring oil-soluble substances into solution. In liquid surfactant formulations (shower gels, shampoos), T-Saponin has a slightly gel-like, consistency-increasing effect.

Furthermore, T-Saponin also possesses an antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory effect. It is therefore perfect for cleansing products for oily and impure skin and scalp, but can be used for all skin types. In hair care, T-Saponin is particularly interesting because it leaves a clean and soft hair feel, but at the same time makes the hair manageable and provides volume. It can also be used for shampoos for scalp problems and dandruff.

In oral care products, such as toothpaste or mouthwashes, T-Saponin is also perfectly suited due to its multifunctional properties. Additionally, it has a slightly sweet taste.

In emulsions and skin care products, it can be used as a main or co-emulsifier with active ingredient properties. Just 0.1 - 0.3% in combination with a consistency agent like fatty alcohols (e.g., cetearyl alcohol), or in combination with another emulsifier (e.g., Emulblend Hydrofeel) lead to stable emulsions with appealing properties. However, T-Saponin tends to result in liquid products and should be sufficiently stabilized with gelling agents such as Instabond Velvet or Xanthan Sense. The color of the final product also becomes slightly cream-colored, and the final product acquires a pleasant, delicate inherent scent.

T-Saponin can not only be used in cosmetics but also performs valuable services in the household. It can be used especially where little foam is required, but a high cleaning performance is still necessary - e.g., in the dishwasher.

• 2 - 10% in liquid surfactant products
