The next generation of green surfactants is already here!

Until now, surfactants have usually been produced using chemical processes. Regardless of whether they are from natural or synthetic sources, or combinations thereof. Depending on the process, these manufacturing methods are more or less energy-intensive. In the meantime, however, fermentation is becoming increasingly popular as a simpler way to produce raw materials. It only requires the right starting materials and the corresponding bacteria do the rest. Therefore, fermentation is very energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

GlycoGreen is a surfactant produced via fermentation - from sugar and fatty acids. The end result is equally "green" and a true performance raw material, falling into the category of "biosurfactants." More specifically, GlycoGreen is a glycolipid. These also occur in our bodies, which accounts for its skin-friendliness.

Its properties include:

• powerful cleaning performance (even at low usage concentrations)

• good solubilizing properties - e.g., for dissolving fragrances and essential oils

In surfactant formulations, even small amounts of GlycoGreen complement other surfactants and increase the performance of the products. It improves cleaning performance and skin compatibility at the same time. It is even milder than other skin-compatible surfactants like glucosides, betaines, or glutamates. Furthermore, it creates a dense, creamy foam that is easy to rinse off the skin, leaving a skin-flattering feeling.

GlycoGreen is also an excellent solubilizer. It can be mixed with lipids, perfume oils, or essential oils, and this mixture should then be incorporated into the water. In this way, water-based fragrance sprays, scented facial toners, and body sprays can be produced.

We recommend one to three times the amount of GlycoGreen relative to the amount of oil. However, the correct amount of solubilizer depends very strongly on the oil to be dissolved, as well as other factors. Solvents such as Pentylene Glycol and the combination with other surfactants can significantly support the dissolution process.

GlycoGreen is also the right choice for the production of micellar waters. Due to its good solubilizing properties, it is particularly effective at removing sebum and make-up without irritating the skin.

GlycoGreen also demonstrates its solubilizing properties in surfactant formulations, ensuring that fragrances dissolve clearly in the product. This prevents perfume oils from floating on the surface or the product from becoming cloudy. This is particularly useful for thin products or those with a low total surfactant content.

GlycoGreen can also be used as an emulsifier and co-emulsifier. Like other surfactants, however, it reduces the viscosity of emulsions and can also lead to destabilization. Therefore, care should be taken to ensure that enough gelling agents and consistency factors are included in the formulation. We recommend the combination with the co-emulsifying gelling agent Sepinov WEO. GlycoGreen excellently complements the not-so-pronounced emulsifying power of Sepinov WEO. In this way, cold-stirred serums, creams, and sunscreen products can be produced with ease.

Usage concentration and processing

• 1 - 8% in liquid surfactant products
• 0.5 - 4% as a solubilizer
• 0.3 - 1% as a liquid emulsifier
