Calcium pantothenate is a skin-soothing active ingredient suitable for all skin types and products.

Calcium pantothenate is a readily bioavailable precursor to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). This is significantly involved in the body's own processes such as cell proliferation, regeneration, wound healing, and lipid production. Medical skincare products, such as ointments for wound healing and burns, are therefore often enriched with vitamin B5 and its precursor (panthenol). Calcium pantothenate is a body-identical, highly tolerable active ingredient, though it is of synthetic origin. Therefore, like panthenol, it is not approved for certified natural cosmetics.

Calcium pantothenate is a white, easily water-soluble powder and also has skin-soothing, moisturizing, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is excellently suited for irritated and sensitive skin, as it alleviates redness and combats skin dryness. Consequently, it is also a reliable active ingredient in anti-aging products, acne formulations, and after-sun products. It thus represents an excellent alternative to panthenol, as it possesses the same regenerative properties without the disadvantage of a sticky skin feel.

Note: Calcium pantothenate is a salt or electrolyte. Many emulsifiers are incompatible with electrolytes, which can lead to impairment in emulsion formation or emulsion stability. In emulsions, we recommend adding the active ingredient at the end to the finished emulsion (below 40°C) and using a maximum of 0.2%. This can still lead to a reduction in viscosity; 0.1% generally causes hardly any problems. In waters or serums, however, calcium pantothenate causes no issues and can be used in higher dosages.

Recommended concentration and processing

• 0.1 - 0.5% in toners and serums
  
• 0.1 - 0.2% in emulsions

• 0.2 - 1% in surfactant products (e.g., shampoo, shower gel)

• Simply dissolve in the water phase - below 40°C
