Centella asiatica, also known as tiger grass, gotu kola, or Indian pennywort, is a traditional medicinal plant from Ayurvedic and Far Eastern medicine. It is famous for its extraordinary regenerative properties and has been used for centuries to treat skin injuries and irritation.

Our water-soluble Centella Asiatica extract is a colorless, high-purity active ingredient that makes the extraordinary dermatological properties of Centella Asiatica accessible in a modern, bioavailable form. Its effect makes it ideal for all types of care formulations, especially for anti-aging or irritated skin.

Protection, regeneration, and balance for the skin

Thanks to its high content of bioactive terpenoids and triterpenic acids, Centella supports the skin's own repair processes, increases collagen synthesis, and simultaneously counteracts oxidative stress – a decisive factor in premature skin aging.

By significantly reducing the formation of inflammatory mediators (such as IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α), the extract contributes effectively to soothing irritated or stressed skin. At the same time, it improves barrier function and promotes wound healing. The result is a visible strengthening of the skin structure, less skin redness, as well as increased elasticity of the skin.

Scientifically proven efficacy

Although Centella asiatica is a long-established medicinal plant, its ingredients and effects are well-researched, which is why it also enjoys widespread use in modern cosmetics. Care concepts using the name "Cica" are also well-known. This is a common cosmetic term for soothing and repairing care products based on Centella asiatica. The name is derived from "cicatrisation" (wound healing).

Antioxidant activity

Oxidative stress plays a central role in the process of skin aging. Our Centella Asiatica extract shows a significantly increased antioxidant activity in UVA-irradiated keratinocytes and actively supports the skin's cellular defense mechanism. It is therefore also sensible to use in UV protection products and day creams. 

Collagen production & skin regeneration

The extract's ability to both increase collagen synthesis and reduce inflammatory processes makes it a valuable active ingredient for soothing concepts for repair, anti-aging, and after-sun formulations.
