For a radiant, finer complexion - right after cleansing!

For a finer and more even skin surface, exfoliants are virtually indispensable and are therefore enjoying high popularity - more than ever. There are essentially two types of exfoliation:

• mechanical exfoliants
  
• chemical exfoliants

Mechanical exfoliants contain abrasive substances designed to remove dead skin cells. Depending on the abrasive used, however, this can irritate the skin or even lead to micro-injuries.

Chemical exfoliants can be divided into acid peels and enzyme peels. Both affect the structure of skin proteins and loosen them. This makes it easier to remove skin flakes while simultaneously stimulating the formation of new cells.

However, enzyme peels have some advantages over acid peels. We discuss these in more detail here.

KeraZym is an active ingredient based on a protein-cleaving (protease) and a fat-cleaving enzyme (lipase), which is present in a skin-nourishing maltodextrin matrix. These enzymes are of vegan origin and become active as soon as they come into contact with water, capable of breaking down proteins and fats into their smaller individual molecules (amino acids and fatty acids). However, enzymes lose their activity after some time. Therefore, KeraZym should primarily be incorporated into (nearly) anhydrous formulations - e.g., in cleansing powders.

During the cleansing process, not only are skin flakes removed, but excess skin sebum is also effectively eliminated. Therefore, KeraZym is suitable not only for peeling products but also for deep-cleansing products. It clears the pores and thus has an extremely positive effect on oily and blemished skin, as skin impurities always begin with clogged pores and excess sebum that can no longer drain away.

Due to the fact that enzymes act primarily on the skin surface and are not as irritating to the skin as acids, KeraZym is also the ideal exfoliating agent for sensitive skin. Moreover, it also has a moisturizing effect and, through deep cleansing, ensures that the skin is optimally prepared for subsequent care products.

Depending on the application concentration, KeraZym can be used to formulate either deep-cleansing products for daily use or proper peels that are used only once or twice a week.
