The Mediterranean strawflower (Helichrysum stoechas), a close relative of the immortelle, is known in aromatherapy for its regenerative properties. It grows in Brittany near the sea on very barren soil and defies heat, dry air, and salty sea spray. To adapt to these harsh weather conditions and protect itself from dehydration, the strawflower had to develop extraordinary mechanisms.

 

Nature meets high-tech
Hydrachrysum is more than an ordinary plant extract: through a special, complex, and lengthy process, cell cultures (callus tissue) are created under controlled conditions. These are further cultivated to obtain a stem cell lysate, which is dissolved in glycerin. The outstanding richness of ingredients such as various polysaccharides, polyphenols, and rare fatty acids makes this natural active ingredient cocktail so unique.

But why does our skin get dry? Scientists have found that inflammatory processes play a key role in the development of dry skin. Inflammatory processes lead to a disrupted skin barrier, which in turn leads to increased moisture loss. A vicious cycle of dryness is created - Inflamm’dryness™.

Hydrachrysum is able to break this phenomenon by bringing the skin back into balance and returning it to its normal function.

 

This occurs through the following mechanisms:

• Improves the thickness of the epidermis and restores the skin barrier.

• Interrupts inflammatory processes.

• Strengthens the cohesion of the skin's horny cells.

• Ensures intensive and long-lasting skin hydration.

Furthermore, it was found that Hydrachrysum promotes the number of "lacunae" (small intracellular water inclusions in the top layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum). This is noticeable in an increased water content of the skin and leads to a plumping and firming of the skin.

Hydrachrysum is therefore an excellent active ingredient for the care of dry skin, irritated skin, and for valuable anti-aging care.
