This is important to achieve a skin-friendly pH value (approx. 5.5 - 6). Many ingredients also require a certain pH value in the final product to be effective. This applies in particular to preservatives.
Our Preblend Aqua, for example, like other organic acids, requires an acidic pH value. Ideally, this should be below 5.5. Liquid surfactant formulations also benefit from a slightly acidic pH value with improved consistency.
Measuring the pH value correctly
Hold the test strip in your finished product for 1 second and wait 30 seconds. Compare the colors on the test strip with those on the color scale.
The pH value is not correct?
You can lower the pH value by adding citric acid. You can increase it by adding baking soda or sodium hydroxide solution. Always use prepared solutions (25% citric acid/baking soda, 75% water) to correct the pH value.
