Characteristics

This preservative is the optimal choice when you need something simply reliable. Perfect for beginners too!

Microorganisms can multiply quickly in water-based formulations such as emulsions or surfactant formulations, compromising product shelf life. Furthermore, a high microbial load poses a risk to the skin as well.

Preblend Easy is a balanced mixture of two synergistic substances:

• Phenoxyethanol is a long-proven and effective agent against bacteria, fungi, and yeasts.
• Caprylyl Glycol is a moisturizing, surfactant substance that is highly effective against bacteria on its own; however, due to its surfactant properties, it also allows the other preservative to penetrate microorganisms more easily.

Because of this, it is used as a "booster" and ensures that the overall preservative system is more powerful. Even lower usage concentrations are sufficient for the same level of performance. Additionally, it improves the low water solubility of Phenoxyethanol, making Preblend Easy easier to incorporate into products. However, this may also have a minor drawback: surfactants lead to a slight decrease in viscosity in emulsions. This means creams and lotions become slightly thinner. This can be countered by a slightly higher use of gelling agents and consistency enhancers, such as: Xanthan Sense or Cetearyl Alcohol.

Chemically speaking, both Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol are alcohols. This unique feature allows the product to have a pH-independent effect. Many preservatives are chemically classified as acids, and these only work in the acidic pH range—such as our Preblend Aqua. Adjusting the pH value for the sake of preservation performance is therefore not necessary with Preblend Easy. Even alkaline formulations are possible!

Another advantage of Preblend Easy is its delicate scent, which can be described as floral or rose-like and is in no way unpleasant. However, it is not so strong that it would clash with the chosen perfume in the final product.
