Bergamot oil is cold-pressed from the peel of the bergamot fruit. The bergamot is a hybrid of lime and bitter orange and is grown primarily for its precious oil.

Among citrus oils, bergamot oil features the widest spectrum of different aromatic substances, containing top, heart, and base notes. It is, so to speak, a "complete perfume" and is considered the most tart of the citrus oils.

In aromatherapy, bergamot oil is valued for its mood-lifting and energizing effects. It is sometimes also used for low moods or even depressive moods.

Some citrus fruits, especially bergamot, naturally contain so-called furocoumarins - one of which is bergapten. This is considered phototoxic and must therefore be viewed critically in leave-on products, especially if the product is exposed to sunlight, as it can lead to skin irritation (e.g., in a day cream). Our bergamot oil is extremely low in furocoumarins and contains less than 0.0009% bergapten. It is therefore safe to use in cosmetic products and is considered extremely well-tolerated.
