Transparent and highly stable oil gels with a luxurious character - the next generation of balms!
Sheerbond is an innovative texturizer and gelling agent for oil-based cosmetic formulations. The raw material improves the flow properties and stability of oil-based products while enabling a wide range of textures – from solid balms to soft oil gels and creamy W/O emulsions.
The formulations feel particularly velvety, soft, and easily melting on the skin. Sheerbond improves spreadability and leaves an extremely smooth, elegant finish without feeling sticky. At the same time, the raw material ensures high heat stability and helps to reduce issues such as crystallization and changes in formulations.
The special “hybrid gel structure” combines the advantages of solid and soft gelling agents. This creates modern textures with a pleasant sensory experience and high performance. The oil-binding capacity of Sheerbond can be further increased by substances with hydroxy groups. Suitable options include emulsifiers or co-emulsifiers such as glycerin esters or polyglycerin esters, as well as glycols - e.g.:

Furthermore, Sheerbond provides relatively transparent oil gels that look very appealing and create a surprising product experience. The surface of balms in a jar appears translucent and exhibits a mirror-smooth finish.
Oil gels with Sheerbond offer the following advantages, among others:

Even with about 0.5–3%, light thickening and stable oil gels can be created. Higher dosages lead to softer balm or gel textures with a particularly luxurious sensory feel.
The cooling behavior significantly influences the final consistency:
If the formulation is stirred while cooling, softer and more flexible gels are formed. Without movement, more stable and firmer balm structures develop.
