Characteristics

The white, silvery shimmering cosmetic pigment consists of mica and iron oxides. At higher dosages, it produces a rich, glossy terracotta tone; at lower dosages, a more subtle, bronze-colored glitter effect.

As it is a mineral pigment, it does not dissolve in water or oil. It must therefore be evenly dispersed in the oil phase to achieve a fine distribution in the final product and the desired color effect.

To optimally disperse pigments in cosmetic formulations, low-viscosity lipids such as Liposens are suitable, as they wet the pigments well. To ensure that the pigments remain evenly distributed, additional lipids or film-forming and lipophilic substances that stabilize the dispersion should be used. Lipoblend Hydrosoft, Flexibond, Waxblend Hydrosoft, hydrolyzed sunflower wax, and EmuLite are well-suited for this purpose.

This combination enables an even distribution and prevents the pigments from settling or clumping. This also optimizes distribution on the skin and significantly improves the color result and coverage.

It is frequently used in decorative cosmetic products such as lipsticks, lip gloss, and eyeshadows. Furthermore, it is also used in emulsions and care products to give the skin a slight shimmer. It can also be used in surfactant products or solid cosmetics such as shampoo bars and soaps to create a pearlescent effect.
